The question is, "Find the slopes, if they exist, of the lines containing these points."

(3, -5) (1, -1)

I only need help on this one and another, because once I get this, I should be able to get the rest of them.

(5/2, 3/4) (2, 1/2)

To find the slope, the answer will be a fraction
The top of the fraction is y1 - y2
The bottom of the fraction is x1 - x2

It doesn't a matter which point is x1 and which is x2 (and same for y's) just make sure you are consistant.

So:
y1 - y2 = -5 - -1 = -4 which means the slope is -2
x1 - x2 = 3 - 1 = 2

With fractions, it can be tough if you don't remember how to add/subtract fractions. Remember, you can always change the fractions to decimals and do them, but if you get a repeating decimal, it gets hard.

Remember you need to have common denominators to add/subract fractions. I"m assuming you know how to do this. if not, then ask about that in another question.
y1 - y2 = 3/4 - 1/2 = 3/4 - 2/4 = 1/4
x1 - x2 = 5/2 - 2 = 5/2 - 4/2 = 1/2

1/4 divided by 1/2

To divide fractions, turn the second one (1/2) upside down and multiply instead of divide

1/4 * 2/1 = 2/4 = 1/2

so 1/2 is the slope.

Hope this is correct and helpful.

use the slope formula..."y "with the little two minus the "y" with the little one divided by "x" with the little two minus "x" with the little one. once you have the slope use point slope formula the n you get your slope intercept form and thats your equation of the line if you have any other problem you can reach me at my email. cinderellas_email123@yahoo.com

if you know about x,y you should be able to answer it. x is horizontal, an y is vertical. connect the 2 lines and that is your slope.
