Here is an excerpt from an article I found. Apparently, the answer is no. Read below and then click on the link to read about similar studies:

Two studies using identical twins have been reported. In 1977, Tyrell and co-workers reported treating 743 men and 758 women for 5 months as follows. Half received placebo pills daily. The others took vitamin C but only during colds at these dosages: 4,000 mg on the first and second days of a cold and 200 mg on the third day. There was no benefit from taking vitamin C. The incidence and duration of colds were the same for both men and women in the vitamin and placebo groups [22]. Men in both groups missed an average of half a day's work while women missed about a day [23]. The other study, reported in 1981, used 95 pairs of identical twins. One of each pair took 1,000 mg of vitamin C for 100 days while the other received a placebo The vitamin C group had slightly more colds but a shorter duration of colds (5 days instead of 6). [23]

Vitamin C is water soluble so any excess (to a point) is just peed out. It is important to get enough to maintain a healthy immune system but that isn't very much and taking more than a couple hundred milligrams a day won't help you. Do some real research before taking lots of anything, especially fat soluble vitamins which can build up and become toxic if overused.

It doesn't actually cure the cold, but it boost your immune system and helps your body fight the cold easier. Instead of contracting a cold, the vitamin c also helps your body's immune system stay strong to keep your body from coming down with the cold. So in actuality the vitamin c just boosts the immune system that helps your body fight things off.

Hard to say, I've been taking vitamin C for a long time and I haven't had a regular cold or the flu in a long time either, but is the vitamin C the reason? Maybe, maybe not! But I don't think I'll quit taking it to find out!

the cold is a virus there is no cure only things to prevent you from feeling so bad while you have a cold. Vitamin C protects you but wont heal you - like ol girl said it may help ou get better faster but there is no cure available to us today ( i think its n the rain forest with the cure for aids, cancer, and everything else we can not cure )

It doesn't cure something that you don't have yet.
But taking Vitamin C does help your system ward off colds and the flu.
My Dad swore by it and for sure he seemed not to get the flu at all. If he did get the sniffles it was very mild and gone quickly.

Nope. One orange is enough vitamin C for the day. Excess vitamin C is just peed. Ecanacia doesnt prevent a cold either.
