I plan on putting in a sidedriveway, and wrap it around my house to extend my back porch. Total, it will be about 1200 sqr feet.

I live in the Mojave Desert (hot and dry). Any recommendation for what kind of cement I should use?

At 4" thick, you'd have about 15 cubic yards of concrete. This will cost you between $75 and $85 per cubic yard. If you have a contractor do all the prep and form work, it would probably cost you another $8,000 to $10,000 depending on how much they have to cut and fill to accomplish the work. You should use at least a 3,000 psi mix (this is typically a pretty standard mix). You or your contractor should probably do something to help control the curing of the concrete without having too much of the water evaporate off too fast, by using a curing compound of applying wet rags or burlap to the surface and keeping it wet for 3-5 days.

Well, my drive way is probably 15-20 feet long, to have it cemented it would cost about $10,000 or so said the guy that gave the estimate. Black top is cheaper, and is safer if you ave kids. Plus, if the state is blacktopping your road and your drive way i unpaved, and they have some left over, they'll black top it for a lot cheaper. But since your in the desert, asphalt might not be the best idea.
