What gave you the idea it is overrated? Are you suggesting that a brain surgeon, for example, doesn't need a college education to prepare for his career? And for that matter, any profession requires a degree in the preparatory subject. Without a formal education, society would be relegated to persons with menial jobs with no chance of advancement. It's hard enough to find a decent job with a college degree, let alone without one. A successful career depends on a quality formal education. There's nothing overrated about it.

It is over rated because so many have degrees that do not work in the field their degree is in, and the majority of employers now demand "experience required, BA/BS PREFERRED."
The main reason it is important to have a degree, less than 24% of all Americans over 21 years old have at least an Associates Degree.
What is the best way to have the experience AND the degree...the Army. No place else will pay you to learn a skill, give you years of experience and management skills (leadership) while sending you to college to earn your degree. Not many 23 year olds with a degree from Rochester Institute of Technology, 4 years experience in Satellite Communications (2 years in mid management) and 1 year hands on training in the field.
That is what today's employers ask you to have. A Formal Education is not over rated, but under attained.

Unless you want to work in sales or retail (read Starbucks) you aren't going to get much of a chance without a degree. You may need more than a B.A. / B.S. in many fields.
Trades like HVAC and Auto mechanics are even requesting that you have an AA from a trade school or community college. Are they over rated. I guess. Having one doesn't make you smart, just employable.

No, that's underrated. practise would not paintings because no one in this united states has any recognize for it. We underpay instructors, play commercials earlier college starts suggesting that going again to college is a few thing truly terrible, and we whinge endlessly about each and every element. In different international locations, more suitable practise is more competitively priced because the authorities pays for it. And that in elementary words works because in elementary words some human beings get to bypass to varsity, compared to in the U.S, the position a intense share of people bypass on for more suitable practise. that's intense priced, yet "overpriced" signifies that it circuitously is a scam, and it isn't. as well, in a united states the position a lot of human beings pay extra funds for a automobile that lasts many years than an practise which lasts a life-time, there is not any genuine reason to whinge! In different international locations, there are in simple terms as many undesirable instructors (if no extra) than there are right here. yet scholars sense obligated to study, and to well known even the undesirable instructors. right here both the scholars and their moms and dads whinge the 2d they don't like some thing.
