I mean if its such a big deal about bringing guns and knives to school, why dont they form a task force into schools, have metal detectors and have full and random searches like at airports or government places?

School is supposed to be a safe place for students to learn and I don't know how safe I would feel if metal detectors welcomed me at the doors. In most cases, metal detectors are not needed, however there are some schools where those measures are needed.
Personally, I think the easiest way to prevent bullying from beginning is by educating the parents. So many times the response of parents is "my child wouldn't do that" or "its kids being kids". If parents are not taking the issue of bullying seriously, why should the school? Everyone becomes an advocate when it is THEIR children being victimized...we need to take a stand BEFORE the bullying takes place.
Parents cannot condone or minimize the actions of their children. Do not place the sole responsbility of your child's safety on the school. The school can only do so much.

Schools today don't take anything seriously - most especially the kids on the receiving end of bullying.
They are more concerned with saving the kid who is bringing about all the trouble.
Until some of that changes, I would not hold my breath waiting for any kind of reform...

It will probably be about as effective as outlawing murder in general society. Doesn't stop it, and as school is just a little microcosm of the larger culture, I don't think making more rules or laws would be in the least effective.
