I have lived in Round Rock for the last 22 years, graduated from RR high school, and have 3 kids not attending elementary school here.

Round Rock is a very nice city. It is rather quiet and conservative, but close enough to Austin (rather Liberal) to get your fix of the fast times. Round Rock has very low crime, due to the fact that our judicial system is also very conservative (and therefore tough on criminals). We are known for this fact.

Round Rock has very good schools, a ton of parks, great shopping, and okay restaurants (you have to go into Austin for most of the really good places). It is also home to the Round Rock Express, which is the AAA baseball club for the Houston Astros. MIchael Dell (yes, the guy who owns Dell Computers) and Nolan Ryan built it about 8 years ago, and it is has been voted the #1 minor-league park in the USA. It is a great place to bring the family and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Round Rock is indeed hot, but not too humid. My in-laws live in Houston, and that place is a swamp compared to the Austin area. Because of the Hill Country to the west, we have a lot of breezes that blow through town, which seems to keep the moisture out. I've seen some postings here about flooding, but I'm not sure what that's about... certainly it rains hard a few times a year, but massive flooding is not the norm.

Round Rock is split down the middle by IH-35, which goes from northern Minnesota, all the way south to Mexico. The east side is mostly flat farmland. It has less rock, and therefor the farmers who settled here in the 1800's didn't think twice about cutting down all the trees and planting crops. The west side is much more rocky, and has much less farmland (more ranch land). There are a lot more trees, which has helped establish the west side as the more desired side for residential development (large tracts are typically twice as expensive on the west than the east). However, there is more room for RR to expand to the east, so development should be pretty even over the next decade.

Round Rock is a booming town economically, and a hotbed for real estate investors. Chandler Road (now called University Drive) has just open a 400,000+ s.f. outdoor mall (Round Rock Premier Outlet), an Ikea store opening next month, and 2 new hospitals opening next year. It also has a brand-new college campus, which is a branch of Texas State University. That small stretch of road (in northeast Round Rock) has several million square feet of development planned for the next 12-24 months alone, including apartments, retail centers, medical office buildings, and grocery stores.

And, of course, RR is home to Dell Computers, although Michael Dell didn't think highly enough of RR to build his home here (he went to Austin, which is considered more affluent).

Check out the city of Round Rock's web site, as well as their chamber of commerce. Those sites a re a wealth of information.

I was just there this weekend, but I don't know too much about it except that it is about 20 minutes from Austin and that they have the best donut shop there called Round Rock Donuts. My husband and I always go there when we are in town because we saw them on the travel channel one night ranking in the top donut shops in the country. So we gave it a try and they ARE the best!

I don't know what you wanted to know specifically but at least you got a good tip! :-)

My wife and her family are from Round Rock. I don't care for it but I don't care for the flat lands. It is more or less a suburb of Austin. The cost of living is pretty affordable there. Thats about all I know I hope it helps.

It's a small town located next to Austin, main employment is Dell Inc. because of Dell there is a large influx of support business such as malls, warlmart, target, Sam's and many others like the new outlet mall and another that I cannot remember. It is mostly considered a suburb of Austin.

I live on the border of Austin and RR.

It is basically a suburb of Austin. There is a 'downtown' area right off of I35, but the area most poeple consider to be RR is spread out across the north and northwest side of Austin.

Schools are good

Housing is affordable

Plenty of service jobs (stores/restaurants), there are high tech jobs, but fewer than there were previously

Politics tend to be on the conservative side
