Is downloading free music illegal? No. Is downloading copyrighted, for-sale music over the net without paying for it illegal? Yes. The consequences, depending on how much you've downloaded/uploaded and how much the RIAA feel like making an example of you, can be severe. Fines, jail, $ for legal defense, it's all possible.

Downloading copyrighted and protected music for free is illegal. However, the people who get sued are the ones that share the music making it possible for you to download.

Most programs are illegal, unless someone else is paying for it, Napster sometimes has free songs that aren't illegal!

Depends on how much your actually downloading.The anti piracy groups usually go after people who do it on a large scale,but you never know.The most they could do is sue you.

apparently its not safe... i had to delete my entire computer's memory because hackers did a drug deal on my computer so i would just reccomend to stay away from downloading unless its something you have paid for.
