Show her all the positive, healthy things in Seventeen. She may think it is trashy or too mature for you to read, but show her that it is perfectly appropriate. She may not realize that Seventeen has positive messages about body image, self esteem, etc. I did the same thing with my mom a few years ago when I was your age. Good luck!

Okay, I am 56 years old. I have a son who is 25. I just wanted you to know I am no young person. I believe that parents don't know everything, but some parents can't afford it. Some don't like what is in it. You may not like what your parents say to you, or what they say you can't do. Ask your parents why they don't want you do have it. If it is cause of the expense, go out and do something to earn the subscription money and show your parents that you earned it. If they don't like something in it, ask them why. Talk to them. Parents are not against you, they just want what is the best for you.

Find one of the copies of Seventeen that you think your mom won't find fault with & show it to her. See if she'll let you. My dad let me have that magazine when I was your age. He laughed when he saw it & teased me about my not being old enough to have it. He was just joking with me.

Why not just borrow it from your friends?
Saves your mum money and she won't even know you're reading it!
