I am currently attending a community college, my IGETC will be completed in Spring 07'. But applying for UC's and Cal States is in 3 days and my GPA is currently 1.97 I will FOR SURE bring it up to at least a 3.4 by the end of this session in December 06', but my application will already be processed and they will see my 1.97 right now and deny me. What should I do? Please help; counselors here are pathetic and they screwed me up. And I have no one to help me with this! I am desperate for strangers help!
Should I just apply to UC Irvine (because that's where I wanna go) and just wait until they deny me, then write up an appeal? or should I apply for a Cal State, will Cal States even accept me?

Thanks for your help...

Ok, First, you are not going to pull a 1.97 GPA up to 3.4 by spring. You may score a 3.4 between now and then, the GPA is cumulative.

I assume that your Community college is done in the spring and you want to go to a 4 year school in the fall? If that is the case, remember first, that your D's are not going to transfer to any 4 year school. You can't get a 1.97 without them, so be prepared to come in at early Sophomore level.

Go ahead and apply to the school you want to attend. If you get accepted, wonderful. If not, go ahead and appeal and make sure you talk in person to someone in the admissions office in a position to help you.

What you want from your appeal (it won't be upheld) and what they want to see from you to get into school in the next semester. If you are applying now for Fall 07, then look for Spring 08 admissions. Ask them what they want to see on your transcript by then to assure admission. Also, it wouldn't hurt to apply to other schools.

I don't know what your personal situation is, but you can't do C- work at school and expect people to make allowance for you. But often, with a semester off, or spent studying additional courses, many universities will cut you a break.

If you qualify for minority status (I don't think being a woman qualifies) you can try to use that to your advantage.

Many private schools will accept you with the GPA, if you can afford the tuition.

Don't listen to these people here telling you to go to vocational schools. They sound like The Judge in Caddy Shack "Well, the world needs ditch diggers too." They just want to eliminate all possible competition and think that because they took one route to higher education, everyone else should scrub floors for a living if they didn't do it their way.

Good luck

Personally, I'd wait another year and take some electives at your CC in the meantime to bring your GPA up some more. I'm in a similar boat as you, except the university I want to go to requires me to have a GPA of 3.0 while I've graduated with a 2.9. Now THAT's a kick in the pants.

You're not going to be able to hide the 1.97, so that's inevitable. What you can do is provide an explanation for your low G.P.A.in writing and have it attached to your records. If written well and believable sounding it will go along way on your behalf. Question: What brings you to the conclusion that you will be able to raise your G.P.A., you'll need to express that as well !
Good Luck, keep it up.

not really any 4 year university is going to accept a 1. anything....and some dont even except anything lower than a 3.0. i would honestly wait until your grade point is higher. there is not since in going through all that and not get accepted. you will make yourself look bad even if you are not really a bad student. you can apply at anytime. you are just going to have to deal with the draw-backs of having a low grade point.

I think you should definitely apply to anywhere you want. In your personal statement, be sure to mention that you are working hard to improve your GPA, and that you are positive that it will go up to 3.4. And remember, GPA isn't the only thing schools look for when making a decision to admit somebody, so don't stress about it.
good luck!

He's eight, now, and I can not ever discover ANYTHING in his room. When I do attempt to straighten up, his garments are EVERYWHERE! in the back of the mattress, below toys, below the desk, undert the wardrobe, placing from the shelf within the closet. I gotta inform you, my child is the worst!! We simply spent seven months looking to get him to wash his room up. It's been a warfare! The factor approximately the socks, we purchase him white socks that every one fit every different. That means, we simply want a fair quantity to make it determine, and an bizarre one simply is going within the drawer.

I dont understand why cant wait until you have a better GPA. The one thing that you have to remember is that you are going as a transfer student so the deadline for admission should be different.
