(1)

2(x + 2) = 4 . . use distributive prop.
2x + 4 = 4 . . subtract 4 from both sides
2x = 0 . . divide by 2 on both sides
x = 0

(2)

x + (-6) = 9 . . . subtract (-6) from both sides
x = 15

(3)

8 - (4x - 3) = 19 . . use distributive prop. since there is a minus sign in front of the parentheses, it is the same as multiplying everything inside the parentheses by -1.

8 - 4x + 3 = 19 . . combine like terms
-4x + 11 = 19 . . subtract 11 from both sides
-4x = 8 . . . divide by -4
x = -2

2(x + 2) = 4
Multiply by 4 on the left side and divide by 8 on the right. When you do that, you get:
14(x + 2) = 1/2
Now divide by 14 on the left and multiply by 4 on the right. When you do that you get:
x + 2 = 2
This means x = -4

The second one was too hard. I couldn't figure it out. So was the third problem.

Hope that helped :-)

2(x + 2) = 4
2x + 4 = 4
2x - 4 = 4-4
2x = 0
x = 0

n + -6 = 9
n +6 = 9 + 6
n = 15

8 - (4x -3) = 19
8 -4x+3 = 19
-4x + 11 = 19
-4x = 8
x = -2
