Cooking, designing are things that are unisex. there's no difference in gender specification in such things. It's just so that certain people are better in certain things. eg, I can't cook for nuts but I can iron clothes much better than my girlfriend and she can cook a mean potato salad.

Seriously, how do you figure that? Because they're on tv and famous makes them the best? Lots of people in real life will beg to differ and say that statement is not only shallow but chauvenistic.

In my everyday observations, women (who are not on tv) are generally better cooks than men. Think about your parents and grandparents. Your mom and grandma are probably known for their cooking skills in your family, whereas your dad and grandpa probably aren't. Mostly because they were both from a time when the woman was expected to stay at home and be a housewife, cooking (and other domestic duties) from sunup till sundown for her family. So then all of a sudden, one man somewhere decides he's going to start a revolution and then "only men are capable of this type of thing even though women have been doing it for men since the dawn of time". For the majority of men, the extent of their skills and desire to cook at all is using a bbq, nothing more. Plus I've watched cooking shows hosted by both men and women, and while I am not a picky eater, I have never found anything even remotely appetizing that they've fixed.

As far as the fashion designers, that's in the eye of the beholder. I don't personally like any of their creations (nor do I think much of the high end female-designed clothes either, that's just me) and I don't think they are more talented at all than a woman in the same field. In fact, most of those designers, all they are is the CEO and they have designers of either gender working underneath them, but the head honcho gets all the credit.

Additional social expectations of women take away the possibilities of women having much of a career, let alone succeeding in them. Like how a women still is required to look after the kids if she want to pursue a career.

I think you are generalizing. I think there are equally as many chef's ( the proper spelling) who are women as well as men and the same goes for the fashion industry.
