there is no nicotene in it, my understanding is that the shape of the molecule resebles the nicotent receptor so this is how it blocks, the same thing also stimulates the receptor a little but not as much as actual nicotene does, with time the nnumber of nicotene receptors available goes down since there is not enough stimulation and the body does not need that many, so goes down the need of nicotene and the cycle begins that ends at quiting amoking, this is my understanding, I am not sure if chantix people would say the same, you can try chantix.com or call them good luck
