Well, it could mean several things....the only way to know for sure is to have a colonoscopy done which is probably what your PCP would tell you to do....and don't believe the horror stories that you hear today about colonoscopies.....most GI specialists sedate very well and you will not even remember the procedure....so if you found blood in your stool....it is always better to be safe and have the procedure done than to discover later that you have colon cancer that could have been prevented

It can mean anything from a fissure which is a tear in the lining of your rectum to hemorrhoids which are inflamed blood vessels in the rectum or anus to polyps which are growths in the colon to cancer which is usually polyps left in the intestine too long or abnormal cell growth in the digestive tract. So, it is something that needs to be diagnosed by a Dr.in order to determine why and where the blood is coming from.

I'm a medical transcriptionist, though not a nurse or doctor. What I've learned through my work is that it can either be from hemorrhoids (there are internal and external hemorrhoids) or internal bleeding. Hemorrhoids are typically no big deal and go away; however, internal bleeding can be very serious. If you're concerned, see your doctor.

It depends on the color if it's bright red then it can be hemorrhoids, if the blood is a dark color somewhat black in appearance then it could be blood from an ulcer, the best thing to do is go to your doctor.
