Well, let me tell you: you've asked a good question and you've already got some good answers. Listen to the answers. But listen to you heart, too.

Just because you read every day and have been for ten years does NOT mean you're reading too much, no matter what troubling dreams you're having nor what your mom says. Respect your mom and try to understand why she says what she does. But don't give up on reading.

Now your reading might be a problem--

if you don't read a variety of things, say newspapers and good magazines as well as novels, some nonfiction as well as fiction, even a poem every now and then, and not just one kind of book either, like mysteries or romances or science fiction as much as you may like that kind of book;

if you don't use your mind in other ways, like talking about ideas, figuring out what you think and believe about important things, wrting as well as reading;

if you don't kick up your heals and enjoy life -- in ways other than reading. When I was a child, I wasn't very happy for any number of reasons. Reading was my salvation, but then so was walking in the woods, seeing some good movies, talking to my friends, working on 4-H projects, even doing daily chores. Now I an old man, but guess what. Reading and writing are still my salvation, but so are walking in the woods, communicating with family and friends, seeing some good movies every now and then, working on a project or two of my own, even doing daily chores, and especially loving my wife and children and being loved.

So, yes, read, read, read--several hours a day if you can. But write, talk, walk, play, live, laugh, and love, too. I can almost promise: your mom will be proud of you, and those troubling dreams won't trouble you any more.

Enjoy!

Depends on the type of book you're reading all the time and if you ever spend time socializing with friends. Teens and young adults can get so involved in fantasy and science fiction that it overtakes everything and maybe that is why your Mom is threatening to throw away your favorite books. I've noticed nerdy guys get involved in fantasy books and use them to escape because they have few friends. The books become their friends. I have 2 sons that were called nerds, used books to escape and now have very good paying jobs. The guys who teased them are now nothings, on welfare so maybe you should take your Mom's advice. Shy, withdrawn people, also read a lot. Nothing wrong with reading. There are other things that are fun too.

It depends on the kind of books you are reading, if they are scary and giving you bad dreams then maybe you shouldn't read them as much, broaden your book genres more (ie read different kinds of books such as adventure, historical, biographies, etc.). Or if you are reading for hours at a time and not enjoying the outside world, set aside a special time for reading like one hour after school or dinner and don't let it consume your life. As an avid reader myself I know how hard it is to get lost in a book but real life can be just as interesting.

i don't feel that having a troubling dream could have any connection with your reading. I am sure you read a variety of material and it sounds that your dream is repetitive. such a dream may have something to do with your sub conscious. something you may have internalized long time back. your reading my be a result of that (like an escape) but not the other way around.

you could get some medical help from a professional. they could help you solve the mystery and save your books. :)

good luck

well there is no such thing as too much reading, as long as you also have a healthy lifestyle, i read about 5 books a week and it hasnt done anything to me! but you need to eat right, exercise , have friends, and watch what you read!
if you read a scary book or a weird scifi one at bedtime i can see how you could have troubling dreams, try reading a comedy or mystery at bedtime!
and enjoy the books

I read everyday.....but I also have a busy fulfilling life.

Maybe your Mom thinks you hide from life by reading.

Only you can answer this and if it's true you need to find a balance.
