Conservatives have been in total power for years now.

Abortion is still legal, and they are keeping it that way.

No wonder conservtives' neck veins bulge when the truth is told.

The #1 cause of abortion, is, was, and always will be the stigma on unwed mothers from the conservative right. All good, decent conservatives admit this.

they all make promises to get in and once they get in they forget everything. they are all liars. abortion is murder. if you don't want the baby because you are to young or where raped then give the baby up to someone who would love to have a baby and can not have one.

"They are keeping it that way" isn't exactly correct:

Congress passed a ban on "Partial Birth Abortion" and South Dakota has passed a very restrictive abortion law. Bush appointed Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court (they have expressed antiabortion views, and are both Catholics). The South Dakota Law will eventually be up for review by the court -- if they uphold such a law we may see other Red states passing similar laws -- but I doubt the republicans will makes any serious attempt at a national ban on abortion -- their are too many prochoice people including many in his own party.

They realize that the a Constitutional amendment banning abortion would be too difficult to achieve. So they passed the partial birth bill and are keeping their eye on the South Dakota Law -- and hoping Bush gets to appoint another Supreme Court Justice.

They also have done things to cut off funding for abortion in the US and abroad -- and they kept the "morning after pill" off the market for a few years.

So they have been chipping away at "A Woman's Right to Choose" --

PS Partial Birth Ban Law was found unconstitutional in Lower Courts, but will go before the Supremes on Nov. 16, 2006

PPS I don't think your #1 reason for abortion is anything more than your opinion.

Because the President is not God; he cannot ban abortion without a bill from Congress, and they are dragging their feet. They have adopted a slow-and-steady-wins-the-race routine. And the liberals control the spin abortion as a previous respondent has so in-eloquently bantered.

Every mother is a conservative by nature. Inner-city girls aren't getting abortions because of conservative pressure (how absurd!). They simply do not want the responsibility--especially with a father that will not do the same.

I am a quote 'liberal' but I do not believe in abortion.
Yet I do not want a MAN deciding what I can do with my body.
Bush used the illegalize abortion ploy to get conservatives
to vote for him. After he got what he wanted, and since the subject won't make him money or power why would he really do anything?
Bush is a lieing beast from hell and I pity people who are fooled by him and have lost my confidence in the part of America who can't see him for what he is. Conservatives fear the truth and are sheep that only want to protect their little piece of the pie. When confronted with truth, they bury their head in the sand... Sad...

Because Bush is a liar and he can't make any money for Haliburton by outlawing abortion.

"No wonder conservtives' neck veins bulge when the truth is told."

Abortion was made legal by a Supreme Court decision, not a law passed by Congress. If Congress were to pass an anti-abortion law, it would not be legal under current Supreme Court precedent. The only way to make abortion illegal is to either amend the Constitution (good luck there) or pack the Supreme Court (and he's well on his way). Even then it has to wait for a case to be HEARD by the Supreme court so they can overtun the earlier precedent and establish their own.

2000 - 1,313,000

2002 - 1,293,000
2003 - 1,287,000

Myth 1. It'S "my body".
Busted 1. No it's not. It is a foundational genetic fact that your body has your DNA, your fetus' DNA is different.

Myth 2. The fetus is a parasite.
Busted 2. A parasite, by biological definition, must be a different species. No thinking person would consider apples as parasites of an apple tree. (Howevera worm in the apple is indeed a parasite). The biological defintion of parasite can be found at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/parasite . Some committed abortion supporters cling to the etymological definition of "one who is sustained by another without benefit to the host". Taken in that sense, a 6 month old baby is as much of a parasite as a fetus. Only most despicable monsters in world history killed the very young.

Myth 3. You can't legislate women from getting abortions by making abortions illegal.
Busted 3. Driving while intoxicated is also illegal, but thousands of people are killed by drunk drivers every year - only an imbecile would suggest that we legalize driving drunk because people "will do it anyhow".

Myth 4. You can't tell a person what to do with their body.
Busted 4. Wrong. There are many laws regarding public health and decency (Ex. you can't ride the city bus while in the nude.)

Myth 5. Fetuses aren't human.
Busted 5. 46 human chromosomes couldn't possibly be anything else. Tyrants and slavers throughout history always rationalized their crimes by denying the humanity of their victims. Radical supporters of abortion point out that on rare occasions terrible genetic diseases like Turner's Syndrome cause people to be born with 45, 47 or 48 chromosomes and that these people are "not human". While these genetic diseases have pronounced physical and mental manifestations, they do not change the species of the affected person.

Myth 6. The fetus cannot survive on its own.
Busted 6. Neither can infants - a six month old infant would quickly die left to its own abilities. Again, only history's worst monsters killed infants.

Myth 7. Many Christians get abortions.
Busted 7. Many Christians owned slaves - didn't make it right.

Myth 8. Making abortion illegal would force women who were raped or pregnant through incest or whose health was threatened to give birth.
Busted 8. Before Roe v Wade many states allowed for court ordered abortions for this very specific set of circumstances. A system for quick and condfidential judicial review for terminating these troubled pregancies would ensure the taking of human life has its day in court.

Myth 9. Human eggs and sperm are alive. Menstration and masturbation are the same as abortion.
Busted 9. So are the cells of the lining of our mouth - but like the egg or sperm, they independently could never be the start of a new human being.

Myth 10. The fetus isn't human because it isn't sentient.
Busted 10. Neither are people who are unconcious, and no one would suggest killing a person because they are unconcious is legal.

Myth 11. If you don't like abortions, don't have one!
Busted 11. If you don't like slavery, don't own one! Didn't work in 1865 - the abortion version won't work today.

Myth 12. If abortion is made illegal, dangerous "back alley" abortions will thrive.
Busted 12. The availability and efficacy of modern contraceptives can make unwanted preganacies as likely as winning the lottery.
http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/health/contracept/babytabl.html

Myth 13. You can't support the death penalty and be pro-life.
Busted 13. Any unborn person convicted of a capital crime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The only reason Bush and the Cons are against abortion is because their little religion tells them to and they probably think they'll have a better chance getting into heaven.

Cons aren't against abortion because they care so much for life or out of the goodness of their hearts. Cons are against abortion because their religion tells them to.

I don't recall Bush ever saying that he promised to outlaw abortion. Do you have a link to that quote? I can't find it and I figure that something that controversial would have been publicized.

Besides the federal government should have nothing to do with abortion, it would be a states' rights issue.

The president doesn't have the power to abolish abortion, you schmuck! The best he can do (and has done) is stack the high court with enough conservatives to over turn roe v wade at the next available opportunity. I think this will happen in the next ten years.

Because it would be a losing battle. Roe v Wade is well established precedent and is very unlikely to be overturned. A constitutional amendment is nearly impossible also because the majority of americans support a womans right to choose in most circumstances.
