Ninny is Idgie's sister-in-law. She grew up around the Threadgoode family, which is why she has so many memories of Idgie's childhood and of the family through the years. She even lived at the Threadgoode home at times, before she was married into the family.
The jar of honey at the end of the movie was left by Idgie herself. In the movie, as in the book, there was no account of Idgie's death, only Ruth's.
**Read the book!!!**
The movie is wonderful, and is one of my favorites. However, the book goes into more detail than the movie. The book even ends differently than the movie. I won't give it away, but someone who is intregral to the whole story happening and who is alive at the end of the movie... isn't alive by the end of the book! Trust me... read the book!

I love this movie. Ninny is actually Idgie Threadgood. Remember at the end they are by that gravesite and there is the jar of honey signed "The Beecharmer?" That was Ninny's (Idgie's) nickname from her girlfriend Ruth after Idgie went and got honey from that beehive.

Idgie and Ruth, were bonded by their love for Idgie's late big brother Buddy, who was also Ruth's fiance. A politically correct heroine, Idgie rescues the pregnant Ruth from her abusive husband and the two raise the child together. Later Idgie and her loyal manservant Big George (Stan Shaw) stand trial for murdering the brute.

They don't tell you. They leave it open. At the end there is a jar of honey left on Ruth's grave and Idgie charmed bees. I think that Ninny is Idgie.
