My and my ex gf who were together nearly 8 years broke up about 2 and a half months ago. We are slowly working things out together and it seems as though we could end up back together. Only catch is she doesnt want to move back into our house with me. She says that the time apart will make us appreciate each other more and make more effort to build on things until the time is right to live together again. Is this a step backwards in a relationship or a positive step forwards in mending our relationship?

I think this is a great idea! You would have broken up for a good reason, so taking it slowly is the way to go.

You have to start 'dating' again, and building up the trust and love that you had when you first went out.

this is a positive sign
you must really take things slowly
take some time to build a stonger relationship through friendship
if you both dont see each other all the time
there could be lesser arguments
and that everyday could be another day
just like a date
the both of you would be open to others
and you might get jealous in one point or another
but that is a testing ground for trust
it is a good way to rebuild your relationship
give each other some space and time

It's a step forward that she's considering trying again. The fact that she won't move in is that she's really not convinced. I'm in a similar situation myself.
She may feel a little pushed to try again (due to the years together) or she honestly wants to try. But I honestly think she's preparing because she feels she just may want out all together.

that's not a bad thing. it could mean that she wants her freedom to not make the mistake she made with you again or maybe she is just being cautious. go along with it and see how it unfolds. if you get uncomfortable then voice your opinions. it will be hard living apart after living together for a while sometimes it never works out and one partner may have too much freedom. see how it goes. good luck man

Obviously there were problems when you lived together. Now is your second chance. Hash out the problems and take your time this go around. If she moves back in right away, you will be right back in the same situation you were in before the split.

i think it is a positive step. maybe you moved too quickly before and now she wants time to do everything right. taking things slowly is never bad. you really need to learn each other again and learn to appreciate one another.

Forward, but the better question is, 8 years and not married? Which one of you really wants to be apart? Hmmm...

Yes it could work, she's probaly curious as to what a little independance feels like. But she has a bond with you from that time so give her the space she needs and you guys can end up like me n my hubby...we went through somthn like that too, and now we r married and honest and very close bc of it.
