Go with what you like. Platinum is the most precious of the metals you discussed. My engagement ring and wedding bands are platinum and they are not dull at all. I clean them at home about once a week.

he was right in that platinum does not retain the high polish like silver or white gold. however, it is most definitely a good investment for your important jewelry, like a wedding set.
If you want to keep your platinum shiny, have it cleaned regularly. when it fades to the dull patina he was referring to, have your jeweler rhodium plate the ring. It's the same thing they do to white gold to keep it all white and shiny, and it's a relatively inexpensive upkeep - maybe $35 every year or two?
Personally, I love the "worn" look of platinum. Nothing else looks quite like it, so it gives it a very rich, luxurious touch.

Platinum is an extremely rare metal, occurring as only 5 ppb in the Earth's crust.Due to its rarity, platinum is a highly priced metal, more so than gold or silver.
So is it good to buy? Dem right it is. And due to the fact that is rare, one should expect a good resale value if you ever think of pawning it.
Just make sure that they did not sell you an alloy.

Gold, silver, platinum, they're ALL metals! Platinum is great if you can afford it. All jewelry will need regular cleaning. The salesperson was probably just trying to dissuade you so you would buy their product instead. Buy what you like! Stop listening to salespeople!

In my opinion, platinum is a waste of money. It's a very tough, heavy, almost indestructible metal. A lot of people like those qualities but I personally prefer 14 kt white gold. I like my jewelry lighter and I don't need it to be indestructible; it's not like I'm going to war with it on or something.

Platinum IS the top of the line. And, it is classy no matter what the trends are. The jeweler who sold you the line about platinum was just raining on your parade. What a jerk.

Jewellary is only of sentimental value - it has blow all resale value. So buy the thing that you like. Personally I think gold is ugly yellow. I would go for the platinium. All wedding rings end up scratched and dented anyhow.

you'll need to get any metal band polished from time to time; you enjoy your ring - I'm sure it's beautiful. if you got it because you love it that's what matters. (my wedding rings (from both ex husbands) were white gold and they had to be polished regularly or they looked awful, but I do a lot with my hands).
