This website has a diagram illustrating how to thread that model.

yes it's a tension problem. Usually when there is huge loops under the fabric, it's the top tension. Unthread the machine and rethread it, sometimes it's all it needs. Make sure it's threaded correctly. Also make sure the presser foot is down when you start sewing, it loosens the tension automatically when it's up. Adjust the top tension if you need to. Usually there is a coloured section on the tension knob to show where the best tension is. There are few things to check. Is the bobbin in the right way? This sounds silly but there is a right and wrong way to put a bobbin, check your instructions to find which way the bobbin should turn after you put it in. Mine turns anticlockwise when the thread is pulled - it's a drop in bobbin. If you have a bobbin case that the bobbin fits in you can check the tension by holding the loose end of the thread and having the case dangle, if the thread runs quickly and the bobbin case drops quickly the tension is too loose, if you give a slight flick of the hand and the bobbin drops just a little the tension is correct but if it doesn't move it means it is too tight. There is a tiny screw on the side, you will need to either tighten it (more tension) or loosen it (less tension). It should only need less than a quarter of a turn. All else failing spend a little money on lessons, it's a wonder what you can learn.
