First, remember that the current 'low' price is twice what we were paying in 1999.

There are two schools of thought. One, the government has no control over the oil price (in which case Congress gets to credit for the current lower prices) or Two, the government DOES have some control over the oil proces (in which case, they were responsible for the high prices in the first place).

OPEC and the oil companies have control over the prices, because they control the supply. So, do I think it likely that the oil compaines, flush with tons of cash from three years of record profits, would take a short financial hit in order to assure the GOP continued control of the Congress?

You bet'cha!

If the GOP retains Congress, the oil companies will find some excuse to raise prices again before Christmas. If the GOP loses Congress, there will be the POTENTIAL for the prices to stay low while the Oil Barons feel out the new congress to see how much leeway they'll have to stick it to us again.

My guess is that no. Once the General Election is over on November 7th, the gas price will go right back up! Enjoy the somewhat low gas price while you can.

The price of gas is a distraction from the games being played with oil supplies.
It will go down even further when the economy tanks due to the housing bubble pop that is coming.
If you want change, keep it in your pocket. Your dollar is the only vote that's counted.

We must wake up and see why the prices are so low. It is getting close to election time. The republicans want us to think they are the ones that lowered the prices to help us. NO, they are using us like pupputs.

WAKE UP people.

Every time the gas company's raise prices, (for example) they raise the price 25 cents and the people will be angry, so they lower it 10 cents and the people are happy. But the oil company is still making a profit. (Stupid People are placated and the oil company is richer) Then the next time they do the same exact thing. Think about it!

Only until after the elections. They should start to go back up shortly after. The only reason they're low now is because the oil company honchos are buddies of Bush's and they're doing their best to get Republislobs elected so Bush's legislation to help them out will pass through Congress.

Only until the election, then watch out. I thought most people knew the prices are being manipulated. same as the terrorist arrests and terror alerts and every red herring Bush can dangle to divert the public and create a climate of fear and divisiveness among us all.
No one ever asks about the mercenaries we pay to guard the oil company employees who are pumping Iraq's oil day and night..where it goes is any ones guess.

What's low about $2.35 a gallon! When Clinton was president 1999 the price in Ft Lauderdale was $0.99 per gallon.

Only until the next holiday where people travel a lot. Thanksgiving will bring high prices again.

No way. Demand will rise when the heating season begins and that will cause the prices to rise again. In a few years $3.00 will seem cheap.
