SUCCUBUS

In medieval legend, a succubus (plural succubi) is a demon which takes the form of a female to seduce men (especially monks) in dreams to have sexual intercourse. They draw energy from the men to sustain themselves, often until the point of exhaustion or death of the victim. From mythology and fantasy, Lilith and the Lilin (Jewish), Lilitu (Sumerian) and Rusalka (Slavic) are, in redactive Christian fables (folktales not part of official Christian theology), considered succubi.

SUCCUMB
Main Entry: suc·cumb
Pronunciation: s&-'k&m
Function: intransitive verb
Etymology: French & Latin; French succomber, from Latin succumbere, from sub- + -cumbere to lie down; akin to Latin cubare to lie
1 : to yield to superior strength or force or overpowering appeal or desire
2 : to be brought to an end (as death) by the effect of destructive or disruptive forces

So, you see the similarities?

The common verb is "cumbere"= "to lie (down)", "cubare" is another form with a more active meaning "to lie"
and the perfix is "sub" in both cases, which means "under" the b has been assimilated to accommodate easier pronounciation.
