Liberal has different meanings outside the US. The original Liberal political party in the UK used to be the main competition for the Conservatives to the right; 100 years ago the Socialists took their place and became the main gov. party competition way to the left and Liberals took the center ground. Liberal originally meant progressive but in the sense of getting men down the mines and working everyone possible in factories.
You could learn a lot about world politics and labeling people from a v. entertaining/interesting book called the Complete Text of the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, written 110 years ago by a house painter from Hastings in his spare time as a diary after working 12 to 16 hours a day.
It needs to be the Complete text because the original was censored and edited to be less offensive to the rich in the US and UK.

Maybe so. When ever Bush or Condencension Rice have a sound bite coming up on what passes for news... I turn down the volume until the lying, whining squeaks are over. Its to preserve my sanity.
