...they see a White looking Hispanic who is mestizo and has a Spanish last name. When I was in high school there was this new girl. She was really pretty, with blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and rosie cheeks. She became my friend. She was from Colombia. No one believed her when she said she was Colombian. They thought she was lying when she said her last name was Ramirez. Not all Hispanics look like George Lopez!

I was also surprised when I met my first blond-haired, blue-eyed Mexicans who were descended from German immigrants that had settled there over 100 years ago.

I also never knew of the genetic pool of black-haired, dark-eyed Swedes !!!!!!

Or............... the Brazilians who are descendants of Confederate Americans that moved to Brazil after the Civil War.

I liked the surprises !!!!

Most Mediterranean people are dark haired and dark eyed. However, there were other people who settled in Latino Countries. For example, Cuba encouraged immigration from other European and Asian countries because the black population was outnumbering the whites. Lots of Nazis and Jewish people went to South America during and after World War II.

Many Filipinos also carry Spanish names because it was a colony of Spain.

Some people have an image in there mind when they think of Hispanics. This is the same for many groups and nationalities, so your not alone.

Mostly because it is a rare occurrence.

The dominant gene in Colombians are dark eyes, darker skin, and dark hair.

When we see a fair skinned person, we are genetically programmed to think they are of Nordic descent.

I would have been surprised as well, but happily so. She is a rarity.

Oh the effects of cross breeding. if we all did this mabey we would all look more alike and remove one cause for predjudice.
with people traveling more this is becoming more preavent which is a good thing even if it does clash with some sterotyping of people.
