Black Mollies give birth to 20-60 fry, time between mating and birth, 40-70 days. Sailfin Mollies give birth to 20-80 fry, time between mating to birth, 20-80 days. Velifera Mollies give birth to 30-200 fry, time between mating and birth, 60-70 days.
Development of fry can be delayed if the tank conditions are less then ideal. Keep up with regular water changes, and give them lots of places to hide. Most mollies will isolate themselves from the other fish just prior to giving birth. With enough time you will get used to the mollies normal behavior and be able to easily tell when she is about to have fry. For the time being, separate the molly when she gets truly large.

I just recently had a very pregnant Molly and she was absolutely huge. So I did my research and came up with that the mollies will be pregnant for an average of 4 weeks (or 28) days. And when they are about to give birth they will have a pretty distinct square shape to their body. Now what I learned from my Molly is that she will actually grow in size so she was a little under than twice the size of my other female who was not pregnant at the time. And the gravid spot for her the spot completely covered the bottom of her belly. Another way to tell would be if she is hiding in plants or she may even get aggressive toward the other fish.

If you are moving your Molly to give birth do not use a net to scoop her up. The best thing is to use a cup put it in the water be patient and slowly hers her in the cup and gently put her in a maternity tank heavily planted hornwort or another algae. This will minimalize the amount of stress and the amount of still borns

RE:
How long do mollies stay pregnant and how can you tell when they are ready to deliver?

usually from 3 to 5 weeks. Mollies tend to have fewer but larger babies than other live bearers like guppies or swordtails.

She'll get pregnant and keep giving birth for the next 3 to 6 months without a male because the females will store the sperm and use it for the next couple of pregnancies.

If its a black molly, its a bit trickier to tell when they will deliver, but if its a lighter colour, you can tell when the gravid spot near the fishes anal fin turns from black to a reddish brown. If you look closely you can often see the eyes of the babies in there too

Mollies a re live bearers so the babies will be born from mom not hatched from eggs. If possible you should isolate the pregnant fish or the other fish will eat the babies before you ever notice them. You can buy a small net that hangs over the side of the tank. Once the babies are born take mommy out, (she'll eat them too). The babies are born so small that in a large tank you won't notice them until its too late. When they look like they are about to burst they are ready to deliver.

They will stay pregnant (actually the correct term is gravid) until you leave them alone and undisturbed for 30 days. Netting or disturbing the fish for a period of two weeks before "birthing" will damage both the female and the fry.

I'm not sure how long their gestation is because it's hard to catch them in the act but when they are ready to deliver, their bellies start looking like they're ready to burst.

if your female molly looks rather large, the best thing to do is put her in a minimum 10 gallon tank wait 3 wks and she should have a stress free birth, the first time she may eat her fry, so its best to take her out until they grow half inch, her next term she shouldnt eat her own fry
