One sort of quick, instant "fix" is exercise - go outside and take a brisk walk, or do whatever sort of exercise you like best. Exercise can give people an endorphin release, which makes them feel better. Also, some people are prone to seasonal depression ("SAD") when it's dark more hours of the day. Getting out in the sunshine can help counteract that.

Of course, if you're having ongoing stress, you're probably going to have to exercise fairly frequently.

Another thing that may help is talking to people. I assume from your avatar that you're a guy, and sometimes it's hard for guys to talk about what's eating them. Nevertheless, if you can talk to your S.O., a friend, or loved one on a regular basis, that may help relieve the stress a little. Some people also keep diaries where they write things out, either handwritten or on a computer. The advantage of that is that you can say anything you need to, anything that's passing through your mind at the moment, even if you know you may not agree with it when you're feeling better. Of course, if you're living with someone who's overly curious, you may need to delete your diary after writing it. 8>)

If the stress is really long term, it may be worth trying to figure out how to get out of the situation that's causing it. Sometimes that isn't possible or desirable - for example, my son gives me a lot of stress, but I don't really want rid of him. But if there's a job that's giving you stress and you don't see an end to it in sight, it may time to start shopping for another job.

If the stress is really really bad and there doesn't seem to be a way out of it, therapy may be in order. Sometimes therapists can help people find ways out of bad situations, or sometimes they'll try something called "cognitive therapy", which has to do with helping people analyze and change the way they think about things.

Good luck!

A few things-

1. By yourself- Turn off the TV, radio, and phone. Lock the door. Lay somewhere comfortable, and close your eyes. Talk yourself down, repeating key sentences like "I am in control."

2. At work- Go to the bathroom, lock yourself into a stall, and take deep, slow breaths. Tell yourself (mentally) not to take anything personally, and that you have control. Smile.

3. In public- Breathe slowly. Count each breath. Remember that the idiot who cut you off or shorted you change is not out to get you, and is probable having a worse day than you are.

Hope these help!

When I get stressed out, recently I have been watching Spongebob Squarepants. ( humor helps you relax) Also, try a nice cup of tea and anything lavender scented. Find something that you can focus on that is simple and enjoyable. A puzzle, video game, or board game. These help too!

The Three Stooges, getting alone and listening to relaxing music through a set of ear phones, or a small glass of Cabernet. I suggest Mondavi.

Exercise, especially hard, sustained aerobic exercise. It not only releases chemicals which make you feel less stressed, developing your muscles and lungs will help you better cope with stress when you aren't exercising.

All of the above are good answers, but I chill out on my computer by answering questions. But exercise is good. And prayer.
