Is it possible for a group of people to build a house in one week (as seen on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition)? I'm thinking that it's not possible due the drying times of building materials. With paint, concrete, wall texture, drywall mud taking at least a day for each to cure, how can it be possible? Tell me what you think

I'm talking about a stick built, site built house. Not a modular.

A lot of the framing work is done in a modular fashion - OSB-clad walls, roofing trusses, etc. That can be done offsite on an advanced schedule. Plus their crews seem to work almost 24 hrs a day.

There are fast-drying concrete formulas that are available - used in highway repairs to cure in 4-6 hours. Drywall mud and texture can be done in a short time if they use fans to circulate the air to assist in the drying. And latex paint can be done quickly if they use a sprayer to apply a few thin coats. If the air is very humid, they would need either more time to dry, or lots of dehumidifiers (portable A/C units) to remove the moisture in the air.

It's possible to do but they sure work their butts off in the last 48 hours.

Yes it is totally possible. There was one done not far from my house and it was done in 6 days. The one that aired tonight was finished in 54 hours and 53 minutes. The fastest ever. If you ever have an opportunity to help build one or to watch one being built. You will see that it not only is possible but they do it all the time.

Yes, it is possible and it has been done regularly be Jehovahs witnesses. They call it miracle construction because of the short time it takes them to costruct such large structures is such a short period of time. Gorups and newspapers have called this miracle construction, not The jehovahs witnesses themselves. There are many types of altenate construction materials that can be used in place of those that require long curing times and these people have proved to be master builders. The practice I believe has been discontinued not becuause it was not done right but because of concerns that errors could be made, since there are so many hands in the projects......KECK

It's possible to errect a house in a week with a large crew, but I'm not so sure about doing things such as redecorating.

(Reality shows are never as "real" as they let on.)
