The electronic air cleaner is usually positioned upstream in the airstream, before the air enters the air furnace.

The EAC uses a grid of wires and plates with opposite DC voltages on the wires and plates. An electric field charges the incoming dirty air, giving the dust particles an electric charge so that they are pulled to the plates (usually grounded) where the dust is collected. The cleaned air then enters the gas fired furnace, is heated and pushed through the duct work.

The gas fired furnace works as a normal furnace. A controller board is commanded by a thermostat to turn on the furnace. The controller instructs the gas valve to admit low-pressure gas into the burners, where the gas is ignited by either a hot surface ignitor or an always-on pilot flame. The controller also signals a small fan (the draft inducer fan) to start up to push the combusted air up the chimney flue.

The hot air from the gas burners heats a metal heat exchanger (stainless steel, or aluminized steel), which transfers heat to the air which will be circulated throughout the house. After the air in the heat exchanger reaches minimum temperature, the furnace controller signals the air-circulating fan (blower) to start up and push the warm air thru the duct work.

When the house thermostat detects that the house air reaches the desired temperature, the furnace controller shuts off the gas supply to the burners, but keeps the blower to continue running for a few minutes. Then the blower is turned off, and the furnace controller waits until the house thermostat commands it to begin another cycle.

1.Gas fired furnace, This unit has a heat exchanger that sets inside the furnace and is heated using a gas flame when the temperature gets to a preset temp. the blower comes on and flows over the outside of the heat exchanger and into the area to be heated.
2. The electronic filter uses static electricity to remove small particles from the air that is pulled into the furnace by the blower.
