How come if you torture your pet, you can escape punishment, or only spend a couple months in jail? Pets aren't things, and I think people who hurt animals are as twisted as people who hurt other people.

I agree with you. People who'll hurt or torture animals will do the same to a human eventually. They obviously are dead inside to be able to do that in the first place.

I have seen terrible animal abuse in my lifetime and often wished that some government agency would rise up against it. I'm very happy that they have such agencies now. I watch the tv show 'Animal Cops' occasionally, and it's awesome that they actually take the animals out of the bad situations & get them treatment when they're injured or sick.

I think the punishment for mistreating animals does need to be harsher, depending on the crime. I've seen some cases where it was unintentional, but I've also seen some blatant abuse that should have not gone unpunished!

YES!! I completely agree. Pets can feel pain to just like we can. I watch the show "Animal Cops" and cannot believe how any human could treat animals that bad. Why bother getting a pet if you cant treat them as you'd like to be treated!!!

Absolutely. Animals are at our mercy, and we are expected to be kind to them.

Jeffrey Dahmer started out abusing animals and ended up killing a bunch of men and boys and eating their body parts. Animal cruelty is often one of the first signs of serious trouble to come!

I don't recall who said it, but in a nutshell the best way to judge a society is by how they treat their animals. I couldn't agree more!

If crimes against our children and loved ones should be judged more harshly, then crimes against animals obviously should be as well...child molesters get a slap on the dick, and are "allegedly" rehabilitated...There is no rehabilitation for a kiddie fetish..and testosterone feeds the monkey. Don't get me wrong, lots of chicks are pederasses--but what's w/ these men praying on little boys?Oh! They have been REHABILITATED......now they just beat their dogs..

I have been an animal control officer for many years. And yes animal cruelty should be punished more severely. often times it is only the start of other abuse.

YES! the only difference between doing it to animals vs. people is that it is more cowardly. i think that punishment should be almost if not fully equal.

I don't know. Actually, I know someone who had a pet lizard and ended up leaving it somewhere in the bushes because she couldn't take care of it properly. So, now the lizard is free...or maybe dead?

they are cracking down on animal abuse, and rightly so, and they should realize that someone who abuses animals is very likely to do the same to humans too.

I AGREE!! PEOPLE WHO TORTURE ANIMALS ARE A DISGRACE AND SHOULD BE TREATED BACK IN THE SAME MANNER.
