A good way to get a basic thesis (you can refine it later) is to start with "I am going to talk about..."

So for example:
"I am going to talk about the effects of poverty on the living conditions in Africa and how poverty could be ended."

Then get rid of the "I am going to talk about" part (because that sounds really junior-high) and turn what's left into a complete sentance.

Subject: poverty in Africa.
a. can it be cured?
b. the why of poverty?
c. African climate vs. poverty?
d. exploitation by the western powers?
e. aids and poverty -- are they compatible?
f. too many countries in Africa?
g. is money the cure to the poverty?
h. what does the west really expect from Africa?
and the list goes on -- it is endless.
Conclusion -- the African poverty problem can only be solved by local ingenuity and no interference from third parties that have a self-interest. Wholesome migration is one solution -- and there are other options.

I want to tell you a trick that I used. I wrote the rest of my paper first. You clearly have points to discuss, work on developing each idea, write out the paragraphs then go back and write a sentence that ties it all together. It's easier that way.
