Do you feel that people in general still care about the bigger issues or have they resigned themselves to thier fate? Is political apathy far too common nowadays?

Another great question posed by a most intelligent and free thinking person!

Intellectual debate has been replaced by 30 second soundbites designed to capture what little attention span the average person has left.

Objectivity has been replaced by a constant onslaught of fear, fear and more fear, designed to keep us in a constant state of discomfort, and to keep us from attempting to question the things that really need to be questioned.

Why do you think the right wingers consistently repeat the same soundbites they hear on Fox, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Bill O'Reilly & Sean Hannity? It's the same thing, over and over and over... and it works. It is all designed to remove any last glimmer of objectivity the weak minded may have had.

Thanks for letting me rant!

Most people feel insecure when they consider having an open mind..... or HEAVEN FORBID ...... learning something that would help/force them to CHANGE their mind.

Even if a "normal" person DID find themselves in a comfortable/safe environment to let some of their thoughts be known and shared and possibly debated........ they might have to suddenly admit that they had never really THOUGHT of any alternative position before !!!!!!!

If kids watch too much TV and are raised by parents who watch too much TV........ then even IF they ever talked with each other about something important...... the best debate they could come up with would be one of the mind-numbing arguments that CNN or MSNBC or NPR or FOX has streaming 24/7 into their living-rooms and bedrooms.

Intellect and objectivity need to be worked for, fostered, challenged, nurtured........ even DOUBTED. ....... before it can be honed and utilized.

Most people prefer to live their lives differently.

I think you can find all kinds. Those that care and want to do something about injustice, not least by joining in healthy discussion with others DO exist, but perhaps the ones who believe there's not much point in even having an opinion on a burning issue are easier to find.
Education is the key.

Yes, it seems like all the big politicians and political parties are on the System, full of "stonecutters", and it is six of one and a half a dozen of the other. (Example, George W. Bush and John Kerry; also George W. Bush, capitalist, and Tony Blair, Labour Party).
