i am a MUSLIM 22 years old girl. i am an arab as well
i am religious, i wear veil but i don't cover my face. i wear very cheerful colors and i wear makeup as well.
i am not locked in my house till death. i have two jobs and i come back home from my evening job at midnight.
in our country we wear whatever we want. i wear jeans i also wear bikini in the ladies swimming pool.we also have beaches for ladies only.
in the underground we have a ladies coach to be safe and to prevent anyone from abusing a woman. some mothers breastfeed their kids in the ladies couch... they are totally free
we feel secure in the streets. someone tried to bother me once in the CTA (bus) all the men stood for him and kicked him out, they even offered to take him to the police station but i was busy.
my male co-workers treat me perfectly. they prepare me nescafe if the office boy is havin a day off

the above details was added to answer you (acid tongue) but to explain further i would tell you that premarital relationships turned out to be the greatest mistake in your society as girls endup as single mums. so why should we do this, moreover even within your societies there are alot of religious people who refuse the idea of the premarital (s). why should you accept those people in your society and reject them in mine?!
they exest everywhere and i am one of them anyway!

Your question is not a question as much as it is a reverse answer to the western minds that ask and say that women in islam are abused or oppressed.
My dear lady they dont know, they dont know even their own religion.
They dont want to know either, they want an enemy as for all the enemies the west had was gone (Nazis, Communism and the cold war)
So as the great Mrs. Margaret Thatcher said once in the 80's that Islam is the new enemy
My lady they have schools and theories that explain and illustrate the bible in their own Political ways...and for political goals. eg (Mr.G.W.Bush).
Their problem is that they attack islam without knowing what islam is.
If they do REALLY want to attack islam they should read in it first before attacking.
and i give this mere opportunity to KNOW.

Hey Christian fanatics who attack islam, do you know what did Jesus said in your(so called) bible:
He said" O god forgive them because they dont know"
and now i say please god forgive them because you dont know
My lady it is obvious that they dont attack with a preplanned method, they just attack without mind.
They dont know that in their western civilization there is a saying that says:
"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER"
I dont think they know it as i think they dont know the truth about islam

I havent really heard that ALL muslim women are treated badly or abused. I heard how badly women were treated by the Taliban in Afghanistan, and Im sure some are still being treated that way.

asalamwalaikum sister i am a 18 year old muslim in america i cover my hair as well and i wear very little make up as well.
i wear the clothes i choose and i work third shift at a very nice company. my shift is 10pm to 645am
i am so glad that other sisters like you showing that majority of Muslim women have very nice lives.
i am a convert, men that i grew up with respect me much more and act in a much more positive way towards me when i cover.
a year after i converted my christian mother said that she never could have expected this but she thanks God every day that i converted to Islam.
Islam is a blessing to women. for every one man that converts to islam, four women convert. dont believe me? check it out

I think a better question would be "Am I oppressed"? You may not be abused but it sounds like the men definitely know where your place should be in society!

I think everyone has different cultures and lifestyles. If you're fine with yours then that's great. The media is always misconstruing stuff because they don't understand it. You're not being abused.
