Deleting the OS is not an advisable action.

Preferably, you should have the alternative OS Installation CD in the drive and boot from the CD to [a] format the "C" drive where the old OS is resident and [b] install the new OS over it.

Usually any OS installation deletes the old OS while installing itself. However, if you "delete" the old OS first, you won't be able to run anything at all and your comp would be junk.

Put your Windows 2000 CD in your computer. Boot to it. Go thru the install until you get to the portion where you can format. Choose to do that. Then don't continue the install.

Usually, to remove or delete Operating systems, people do a format of their pc.
