Does any other lights (side markers, dash board, licence plate) work? Either your switch is fried,or you have a couple problems. The taillights are switched by the headlight switch but are fused separately. The headlights usually dont have a fuse, but the switch acts as a circuit breaker.Check all fuses and check if there are any relays tied into that circuit.
