Gone with the WInd -- extravagent, glossy, full-color movie that fairly faithfully follows a long book. The war and occupation scenes are brilliant, particularly the carshed and Aunt Pittipat leaving Atlanta. Mostly, this is a great movie for the same reason the book sold so many copies -- it is a masterpiece of characterization -- you KNOW these people after an hour or two in the threatre, and that makes the third and last hour riveting, because the final scenes are about character.
There's an ingenious, perfect instrumental soundtrack, Max Steiner's best, that exactly matches the mood of each scene of the picture.

I have so many favorite movies! Gone With The Wind
Because it has a great story line, romance, good looking stars, scenery and action!
I didn't read the other answers until I had submitted mine and was surprised to see that someone else had also chosen Gone With The Wind. Wow! Out of all the movies out there, Snooty and I agree. Again, Wow!

Shawshank Redemption. I did not watch this movie for so long. I thought, prison, how boring. I bet I have seen it over 100 times. It is a story of good triumphs over evil. Andy is falsely convicted, "Comes out of a river **** to be clean on the other side". The relationship between Andy and Red is one of mutual respect and admiration. Great, great movie.

"Gone with the Wind"
Historical romance. It was also my all time favorite book that hooked me on reading as well.
We never got civil war history to speak of in school...as a kid I used to visit the cemetery near my home and read all the gravestones of the civil war soldiers ...there were cannons and cannon balls in that area and pictures on the stones as well. I was facinated by all of that....So that movie filled a big void for me and the fashions and southern ways intriged me and the love story was the best one ever...I loved that Scarlett was so strong and willful...something girls never were portrayed as in real life. Amazing really...Margaret Mitchell was only 17 when she started to write that book.

I have Many favorites
I guess I would go with Pleasantville. It was a really deep thought provoking movie that tells us there really isnt a set way that things are supposed to be like. Just learn to live your life and enjoy for its own merits :-)

Charlie and the chocolate factory cause I love chocolate. And also I love the songs, especially the Augustus Gloop song(it's so addicting!), the Violet Beauregarde song, and the Mike Teevee song, I hate the Veruca Salt song. And I also like Harry Potter because I like magic.

The Gladiator. The first scene is frickin awesome. It comes so close to the true horrific carnage of war and how battles were fought long ago, more so, than any other movie that I have ever seen.
