Because horror movies these days aren't scary. I laughed out loud watching Hostel it was so bad. I also feel, at least for myself, that I might have grown a little numb. I literally started watching Friday the 13th when I was 2, and now that I'm an adult I just don't get scared by something in a movie. The only exception is The Exorcist, which still scares me.

People need to grow up when knocking on horror movies. Look at all the responses of people crying that horror movies to day are crap. Didn't anyone ever see Scream?
The problem is that when you watch a scary movie, you need to realize that it isn't mean to be a realistic portrayl of factual events.
The kids are going to mess around, and do drugs. The one who stays pure will always survive. the girl is going to go BACK into the scary house for something stupid.
EVERY victim of a scary move is always driving a stick shift with a bad transmission. They get out of the car and when they get back in they can't put the car in drive.
The very point of movies is that you have to suspend disbelief. Enjoy the movie for what you see, not for it's realism.

What a no-brainer! It's because you're so intelligent. You see through the whole illusion, so it doesn't connect. When you see all the little pieces, it is not surprising that the overall effect is lost. I could embellish all this with a big load psychological crap, but in the last analysis it would come down to the same thing: you're just too intelligent to enter into that suspended state where all those effects can become or seem real for awhile...

Well, maybe it's that you are in touch with your senses. Even though grafic have gotten pretty realistic, you still know that it is fake. Then there are scripts, and actors, which I can see how a person could get a kick. I barely ever get scared well anymore. The ones that do get me are the ones that mess with your head. Like House of a 1000 Corpses....it freaked me out because lots of people just disappear without a trace, and there are a lot of sick people out there. So it became some thing could actually be realistic....

Because they are such rubbish!!
I find old horror films far more believable than the Mcfilms pouring out of Hollywood - its almost as though someone has told them to put together a portfolio of clever special effects - they forgot to include a story with them tho!!!

Maybe you are a realist at heart and know this stuff is so made up, it fails to "draw you in" you could have a better knowledge of the special effects and pretty much know what is going to happen, and the story lines could be below your expectations.Almost like not laughing at a joke you've heard before. What I would be wondering about is being told I was normal, where is the definition of that? lol

I also have that problem!
When I was younger (fifth & sixth grade) and the Freddy & Jason movies were all the rage, I wasn't allowed to watch horror flicks. When I was finally old enough to watch them (high school), my friends were no longer interested so I didn't watch them. When my friends started feeling nostalgic and started to watch these movies again, I finally got to see them and the plots were so stupid I had to laugh.

Cos you have yet to see the really good ones.
Try watching those that are made in Japan and Korea (most), Hong Kong (some) and Thai (a few)!!!!

You probably get a "kick" out of them because you know they're silly for the most part.
