I heard, years ago, that it was about Mick Jagger. But this seems unlikely since Mick sang background vocals in the song. Warren Beatty's name has also been suggested, as well as Carly's then-hubby James Taylor. It may be about someone else entirely or more than one man. Carly won't say, so it remains a mystery for now.

Apparently it was, and is still a big secret who she wrote it for. Some say Jack Nicholson others say Waren Beaty... there is only one person who knows, and I cant remember his name... he paid thousands on a charity auction for the name that she whispered to him and he had to sign a confidentiality document stating that he will keep the secret...

my guess is warren beatty since mick is singing with her on the recording to begin with. i also think of cat stevens since he dated her then turned to islam later. she being jewish must have flipped her wig so to speak.

nobody knows...there was a contest years back.. the person who won met her and found out and as well claimed he would keep it a secret as well.
