can interior hollow doors be shaved down a bit if you changed the carpet type?

Sure you can. Usually what i do is hold a wood shim to the flooring and use a thick carpenter pencil to mark the door dragging both across the floor. This will give you both the thickness of the shim and pencil. if you trim off to much door and get into the void area of the panel all you have to do is shave off the fall off piece and re glue it to the bottom inside of the door.

Yes, they can be shaved down a bit, but not too much. Interior hollow core doors typically have a solid piece of wood on the bottom of the door that caps the hollow interior. I've shaved down hollow doors for my own house and seen the wood on the bottom (that touches the carpet) be anywhere from 0.50 inches to 1.0 inches in thickness. So just be careful when you're shaving the bottom not to shave too much or you'll end up taking off all of the solid piece of the bottom. I've done that before--the door still works fine if you do.

Good luck.

Yeah. What they said. When you cut the door, scribe the line you`re cutting with a utility knife, then cut just beside the line on the drop side. This will prevent the face of the door from splintering. Also you may want to cover the bottom of your circular saw table with masking tape. This will protect the finish of the door.

Most interior doors have about a two inch fill strip in the top and bottom. This gives you a little room for adjustment. This should serve your purpose if more removal is neccessary the fill will have to be removed and glued back into position.

Sure, it's done alot when carpet is added. You can do 1 of 2 things. You can cut maybe 1" off the bottom, or we've actually pulled the solid section out of the bottom, cut the door to whatever size we needed and reinstalled the solid piece at the bottom. It worked just fine.
