Sociology, maybe?

I googled it:
School guidance counselors need a master’s degree from an approved counselor education program and a state license. To qualify for licensure, a guidance counselor must have two years of full-time teaching experience or two years of experience in guidance and counseling. Full-time experience in guidance and counseling under a provisional license may be accepted to meet this requirement.

Many counselors also elect to be nationally certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors, which grants a credential called, "National Certified School Counselor." To become certified, a counselor must have specified graduate course work, at least one academic term of field experience in a school counseling, and two years of post-master's supervised school counseling experience.

I would agree with that a double major in Education and Psychology would be ideal. There are several tracts in terms of education majors, select the tract for teaching in high school. If you can not double major than select the education major to teach in a high school - you would need to pass a state exam and based on the state a minimum number of years teaching to considered a decent candidate. In addition, please maintain a clean criminal record because this will be a bomb to you actually obtain a job...

Psych is a very good major. Anything pertaining to behavioral or social sciences would definitely help you with your work.

The specific degree you'll need will depend on what school district you plan to work in; different districts or states may have different requirements. You can usually look up their Web site to see "Human Relations" or "Help Wanted" listings.
