Winston Churchill once said that Democracy was the worst form of government, except for all the others.

In the post 9/11 world the weaknesses of the democractic system are being exposed. Fears and hatred are being exploited into windfall political capital for political conservatives.

Democracy is founded on a few crucial assumptions:

1. That people can determine what is in their own best interest. (Works ok for local issues, but assuming uneducated and uninformed people know whats best in terms of foreign policy is just foolish.);

2. That the electorate will be intelligent and informed. (When was the last time people "cared."?)

3. That the government will be transparent and honest- and that the people, and the press, will demand nothing less. (Eesh... Foxnews)

4. That civil rights will be protected by a strong and independent judiciary.

When these factors break down, it leads to nazi germany. Are we on the edge of that? Should we try something new?

No it is not time to get rid of the Democracy. Because for one we do not want ta dictatorship because, the americans are cauky and they will not accept someone telling them what to do. I dont even like my JROTC teacher yelling at me. Yes 9/11 did show a weakness, but it also shows that if we stick together than we would have a more powerful country. We need to do away with Republicans. I cant absolutely say why i feel this way.

I disagree,i think it's time to be a Democracy,where as the majority rules,instead of a Republic, where we send some fool to Washington,who cares nothing of the peoples needs.

Dictatorships work much better. Just look at how free and happy the people are in Cuba and North Korea. Or maybe we should try being a republic.

We are a representative republic - not a democracy.
