I have a good friend who's a Christian minister at the charity where I volunteer.

I've never brought up my personal beliefs with him. Recently, though, he's been trying to sell me on Christianity.

I respect the many religious traditions, but I like my relationship with the people and the universe around me. I meditate, practice kindness, and work to be positive and helpful. That's my "religion".

Frankly, I don't think anybody knows why they follow a special spiritual path... I think that's determined by their individual values and emotions. I'm sure God knows what's in my heart, and I feel no need to try to "make deals" with Him (a concept I find a bit silly and vain).

I could tell my friend exactly why I'm not interested joining a religious group, but I like him very much and I don't want to alienate him or hurt his feelings. Ideas? (And Christians, PLEASE don't try to convert me---no thanks, really!)

Explain to your friend exactly what you stated in your question. It is honest and well thought out. It is by no means offensive and should let your friend know that though conventional worship is not your cup of tea, you do have your own personal "religion" that is fullfilling your spiritual being.

well first of all it is your choice to accept or deny Jesus but if u deny him then simplely tell your friend no thanks. I personally follow Jesus because i have been on both sides of this world and hun ill tell u right now not money not cars nothing will make you happy because when this world comes to an end this stuff will be junk its worthless and if u want my opinion u should accept Jesus because one you are not promised tomarrow and u could die right now or u could get in a car wreck and u will stand before God alone and u will have to answer to him not to your friend not to anyone but Jesus and if ur not saved u will go to hell and hell is not a fun place but in the end in this life we all have to make choices and i personally hope u make the right one. i'll be praying for u God bless you ....

Tell the Minister what you have just said. If he won't take "NO' for an answer tell him that you will not be volunteer your help any more.

Well, I don't see what's so wrong with being a Christian (am one myself), but I can respect your choices. Your friend likely will, too, if you politely tell him your views.

"John", thanks for your care of me. I know that you are looking out for my best good, my eternal good. I thank you! I respect you .

But I also respect myself. I think differently than you. I have my own set of values & priorities that I live by. I would appreciate you not discussing with me "accepting Jesus". I hope you can understand my clear position.

AMEN.

Well, if you just repeat what you wrote and everything will be okay. If he is a true friend, he will understand.

You wont hurt his feelings, it will just make him pray harder for you. Even if you dont believe, we dont want to see you burn in hell.

You can say you have accepted Jesus but now its time for Jesus to accept you... then add.... Please do not bring this conversation up again , thanks for respecting my wishes.

If this person will NOT STOP be MORE BLUNT and tell him to BACK OFF !
