What you need to do is get more flexible. And don't worry I had this problem. I worked out a streaching tech:
1. Lay down and lift up your right leg and gradually pull it twords you-1 minute. Do some with left.
2. Turn on your left side and lift right leg-1 min. Turn on right side and life left leg-1 min.
3. Sit down and put your feet in a stradle or middle split. Try getting your stomach flat on the floor with arms in front, in the middle of two legs. Then put your left ear on your right leg and pull. Then right ear on left leg and pull.
May sound like a lot but if you do every strech for 1-3 minutes the total will only be about 10 minutes each day. Even less! It will only help if you do this everyday or everyother day. It helped me and I promise it will help you.
Try putting on music while you do the streches.. It gets you motivated :]

Get a DVD or Book on Stretching exerises to loosen muscles, make yourself more limber and practice kicking---but always warm up first-for approx 5 minutes run in place,,jumping jacks, jump rope--any movement to get the heart pumping and then Stretch(warm muscles will stretch more easily than cold and less injury if warm muscles first) do stretching exercises and then practice kicks. Soon you'll be kicking it

work on getting more flexible. being able to do vertical splits will deffinatly do it for you. every day sit in your best splits for 30 seconds-a minute (but not more) and you will get flexible and your splits will improve. also you can try holding on to a pole, barre, something to keep your balance and work on doing grande batmas... that helps too =]
