am 13 and have never had my period before. I have been getting discharge for abou a year now. Sorry if this is gross, but my discharge was brown yesturday and today. It is a light brown. Is it my first period? I had it one day, then it went away. Since it stopped could this be pre period spotting. I have been getting cramps for about a week

it could very well be spotting. you're still young, though. do you know how old your mom was when she got her first period? that will help you determine when yours is coming.
I dont think its a real period yet, but it does sound like your close. keep some pads ready, and have some mydol and tons of chocolate on hand

Yes, it could be the beginning. I would like to hear you have some red blood though. Brown means it's old. So, if you don't get the red within the next 6-8 months and continue to get brown spotting ask mom to make you an appointment. It's just so you can get off to a good start and know that you are ok and it's a good idea anyway. I hope you know about safe sex and all that. If not, ask an adult that you trust if you can't talk to mom. You must take care of yourself in this world because no one else will. Boys are one minded, if you know what I mean. First off, it's not gross...it's life. It sounds like it is pre-menstrual discharge. Take advil, pamprin or something like that to help with the cramps. Keep a pad in your purse just in case you start when you are not at home. Good luck!!
