I could just jabber a lot of platitudes about how it was a different age and the people reacted differently and all of that, but I really tend to think that the major difference is in perception.
Pearl Harbor was an attack by a visible enemy, one wearing uniforms and. even though there were civilian casualties, the targets were primarily military.
On 9/11, the attacks were made by individuals who were definitely not playing by any rules of engagement we've been familiar with, and the targets were not military, with the exception of the Pentagon. In a real sense, this enemy is still largely invisible.
Why the protests? No one likes war, even wars that are necessary. The one thing I can appreciate about this generation of protesters is that they aren't demonizing the men and women who are putting their lives on the line by serving in the military.
My personal opinion? About 6 months following 9/11 I was talking with a friend and saying something to the effect that I wanted to see something being done. She and I are both of an age to have heard about World War II from our parents, aunts, and uncles who had actually lived at the time, and we concluded that it's a totally different kind of war, one where the enemy uses the tactics of schoolyard bullies rather than coming out in the open in a fair fight.

Declarations of war between nation states, total war, an enemy that attacked using conventional forces against our armed services...those are the major differences. Although, the feeling of unity and wanting to strike someone RIGHT AFTER 9/11 was very similar to Pearl Harbor. Now, that unity has faded without a conventional war against another nation state.

Which war are you talking about. It is now known that Iraq had nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. Or are you talking about the war if Afganistan there were individuals in that country that were implicated by thier own admission to have been involved.
The attack on Pearl Harbour was an act of war and the attacker was know and identified as Japan. The declairation of war on Japan was justified. If after Pearl Harbour war was declaired against Iceland rather than Japan it would have been a wrongful war.

There is no connection between this war and 9/11. The people involved came from Saudi Arabia and Egypt and were organised by Osama bin Laden also a Saudi Arabian.
Saddam Hussein had no connection with Osama bin Laden who hated Saddam because of the support Iraq received from the USA and Europe when he invaded Iran.
WMD was given as the reason for the war but that was soon changed to regime change when no WMDs were found.
The real reason is the control of oil which is becoming a scarce strategic commodity for the whole world.

It was the most spectacular human deed in the history of the world. Pearl Harbor and the atom bomb were up there for sure, but 9/11 happened right in front of the cameras from the word go.

there was a lot more going on with the pearl harbor attack than the stupidity of the terrorists. plus, it wasn't the country of Iraq who attacked us on 9/11 directly. it was a group of people from the country who were part of a religious group that went a little AWOL. after that it was a good excuse to go after the country where the terrorists came from because of vague indirect linkage. people are so pissed because they don't think there was enough of a reason to go to war against the country now.
pearl harbor was a larger threat, such as the country being taken over than 9/11.

Because after Pearl Harbor, we fought the people who attacked us.
After 9/11 we attacked a country that didn't attack us (Iraq) and was no threat to us.
I can't understand why people like you still think Iraq had anything to do with 9/11.

At the time of Pearl Harbor, the world, mainly Europe, was involved in a major war. At the time of 9/11 there were no major war going on in the world that could justify the attack on our soil--Bin Laden and his gang of cowardly terroists wanted to kill innocent men, women and children all in the name of Allah and because they did agree with US policy.
