Last month I messed with my pills and postponed my period for a week. then i had my period and during it had sex. about 2 days after it was over i spotted for 3 consecative days in the late afternoons only. I took a pregnancy test, and it came back negative, but i haven't actually missed a period yet and shouldnt for another 2 weeks if i keep taking my birth control so it seems like it could just be to early to take a test... but the spotting worries me. i have never ever had this before

If you are on a combined pill (oestrogen and progesterone) as long as you took the rest of your pills OK and only took a 7 day break as normal it is very unlikely you are pregnant. One of the best things about the combined pill is you can use it to choose when you have periods and it shouldn't affect how well it works.

The pill is very effective - if 100 women take it correctly for a whole year less than one of them would become pregnant.

If you are still very concerned, a pregnancy test would become positive about 2 weeks after conception so if its been that long since you had sex you could take it again now. Normally people say wait until your period is due because in a "natural" cycle that's usually about 2 weeks after people are at their most fertile and therefore most likely to conceive.

Note that contrary to the answers above having sex during the week you are off your pill is NOT unprotected. And the idea of not having sex during your period is stone age thinking. Of course, if you have a new partner the most sensible thing to do is use condoms regardless of whether you are on the pill or not!

Good luck

Yes it may be to early to take a test BUT if you are really worried you might be able to go to the doctor and have them do a blood test to see. This checks the level of a hormone HGC or HCG (not sure which way the letters go) to determine pregnancy. I found out i was pregnant at only 4 weeks so you may be just a little early on the home test and in a few days it might show one way or the other. Hope this helps.

Ok...so this has actually happened to me before as well. I forgot to take my pills for like 3 days in a row 3 different times during the month and it really messed up my period. I never quit having sex and I never got pregnant. Just so you know the pills are supposed to be 99.9% effective and if you forget 1 pill you should just take it ASAP...but if you forget 2 in a row you are supposed to wait for sex untill you take your pills consecutively for a little while. My mom told me that she was on the pill and got off of them when she tried to conceive me..She said it took her over 1 year to get pregnant because her body was so used to the pill! Every woman's body is a little different I know..but I do hope this helps you! I would wait until your regular period comes until you start to worry...and I would ask a doctor for a definate answer.

My advice to you is never have sex during your period as this increases the chances of contracting or passing on a sexually transmitted disease. If you are not very good at taking your pills on time there are other forms of contraceptives you can use such as the coil. Take the test in two weeks time to get a more accurate reading as you might have taken it too early.
