Remove the lower kick panel cover. Use a flash light look underneath for where the leak is coming from. Before touching anything Turn off the power to the dishwasher. Once the leak is detected you can take the correct steps.

Check the gasket around the door. If it has debris built up around it, water can get through. If it is worn from age you can find a replacement depending on the model.

Be sure that the drain at the bottom inside of the dishwasher is clear and unobstructed. If so, clean it, of course.

Barring those two problems, you may have to delve a bit deeper...

Remove the kickplate (held on by screws) and, using a flashlight, see if you can see where the leak is coming from. If you see it leaking from under the machine, this gets a bit more complicated.

First off, find the breaker that controls the elecrical supply to the dishwasher and turn it off and cover it with tape to keep anyone from turning it back on while you work on it.

Open the dishwasher door and locate the two screws that attach it to the upper rail of the cabinet. Pull the washer as far out of the opening as the electrical, water supply line and drain line will allow. They are normally two places that leaks will develop:

1) The water supply line. That is usually connected to the machine with a brass screw-on connection. Make sure that this connection is tight and that the rubber washer inside the male connector is in good condition. If the washer is at fault, take it to your neighborhood hardware store and get a replacement.

2) The drain line. This is normally a plastic or rubber hose that connects to the machine using a hose clamp. Make sure the clamp is tight and the hose is in good condition (no deterioration or cracks). If you need a replacement, the nearby hardware store will usually be able to help you

Barring the two solutions above, I would guess that it is internal o-rings giving out. If that is the case, it's not something your average homeowner can fix. Take it to the manufacturer if it's under warranty. If not, take it to an appliance repairman.

Good luck!

Simple if it is coming from the door. Likely the gasket is bad. Start by checking out if the fold of the gasket has build up of scum. Clean well with Formula 409. Try service where you bought it, or g to a App lance Parts Store. Take the info on the back label where the serial #, make and model. At Sears they have a breakdown of all parts on there PC and will show you this. That is if a Kenmore.
If not go to the library and ask for help for a book on "Dishwasher Repair". If it is coming from another area, might be a connection or hose.
While you are cleaning the gasket, clean the inside of the float with 409 with a Q-tip and around the prong that the float is on, have seen the dishwasher float stick and over fill.
If the switch is fine, and the door is open it will not come on.

Have you checked if there is food, etc, in the bottom of the dishwasher? Unless the screen is clear, the water cannot go down. I sometimes put a cup of vinegar in with my dishes to keep it clean.

Make sure the drain hose has a loop in it. Tie it up under the sink with wire.
