ok so , my emachine T1220 stopped working this summer. It started out by restarting automatically. then a few days later it would constantly freeze and to turn it of i have to hold the power button for a few seconds and then my computer would turn off. Then....it got worse. It would freeze then i would restart it and it would get to about the log in screen and would freeze and or restart again so i would keep it off. i opened up my comp and there was tons of dust on the cpu fan and everywhere else so i got rid of it all and tried my comp again and it was working great for a while. then the next day it started doing the same thing all over again.i would turn it off and then when i turned it on nothing came up. it sounded as though everything was running but nothing happened.the fan on the power supply was running. well i would try to turn it off but it wouldnt work no matter how long i held it so i had to unplug it.then 1 day, there was a pop. was it my power supply or cpu fan or what???

All of the above, lol... the PSU can be replaced, and a POST should occur, with one beep. That will mean it is ready to run.. too bad, but, the OS is prolly hosed, too.

You might be pwned...

I would run a LiveCDrom of http://pclinuxos.com to see if it is OK...
then wipe the hard drive and install the LinuxOS... Microsoft runs 45,000 Linux machines on all services, websites, and for development at Redmond of all gaming, testing, etc...

I agree with people that it is most likely a bad power supply. I have included links for a fairly standard power supply tester. I would however try these steps.
Step one.
Examine the capacitors on the motherboard. They are the round cylinders surrounding the CPU. They should have pluses or xes on them and they should be flat. Any that are bubbled up need to be replaced. If all are as they should be then. Link below for more information.
Step two.
Pull all peripherals off system. We want just video, keyboard and mouse. By this I mean pull out any other cards, not just unplug them. Then try powering up the system. If the system powers up it is one of the externals causing the problem. If not then it is going to be one of the main components of the system.
Step three.
We want to start eliminating possibilities. You would be best served by trying them in known good systems. CPU, RAM, Video Card, Power supply and Motherboard.
RAM & Video card are the easiest to test in another system and so I would test them first.
If any of this is something that seems beyond you then take it to a local professional.

OK cool off don't be too angry OK?there is some possibilities

1st if u hear your computer fan running and your monitor is blinking(there is power supply in your monitor if it is blinking ,only some special ones don't blink) it is because your CPU is spoilt not cpu's power supply so i recommend you to find a computer doctor

2nd if your CPU is very quite when you on it and u hear no fan running but your CPU have some lights on,it mean Ur fan is spoilt so go and change one

if (your computer has light on )=your com is running and your cam fan is also running ,that mean Ur computer has been hacked or gotten virus by accident so u Must go to see an computer doctor as you may lose all yoUr file and they could use ur com ip addressee to buy stuff and u need to pay for it

so good luck

We cannot tell anything from a noise we did not hear. What, if anything, does the box do now when you attempt to power it up?

Any computer technician has a device to test your power supply quickly and easily, or you can swap it yourself if you are handy. Once your power supply is good, you can observe and see if the cpu fan is working.

BTW, you did not say how you got rid of the dust. I hope you did not use a vacuum cleaner, they generate static and can ruin your computer.

I am going to put my money on this by 30 years of computer problems it is the power supply and the reason I said this is cause of low power problems with the power company or the storms around your town or state. and that loud pop that was a capacitor that blew and a rectifier blew first causing major damage to the power supply only $40.00 fix

eMachines have a bad bad reputation. I've seen lots of eMachines with similar problems and the only solution has been to replace them. Really, have you consider just getting a new one? I mean you currently have a 1.2 MHZ Celeron processor, that is the lowest and slowest processor ever. Really. At this point, anything is better than your "special needs" eMachine. Search eBay they have good deals there.

I truly ought to deliver it again. in simple terms call them and see in the journey that they could a minimum of examine with you over the phone and then ask for a fee to revive it. also, BestBuy techs can help for a fee too.
