we dont really, just like yous dont really hate us, its more a sport thing now, as long as it is friendly banter its all good. rivalry always has to exist, but it never effects our everyday life, which means that it doesnt really matter (and if its a way of getting rid of some anger then its a good thing because there will never be any confrontation involved, unless your a footy hooligan or something!)

Which pass? I thought it was on a field somewhere. I've only read the '1066 and All That' version of events, which pivots on an enormous spider. Well, as I see it, some witches made a hearty brew (they were from Putney), the English behaved revoltingly, as we always do (you can rely on it - the whole rest of the world can't be wrong, eh?), Edward Logshanks cut down all the trees in Dunsinane. Oh, watch 'Braveheart' - an accurate record of Why The English Are CUN**. I am sick of all this too - it's like blaming Papua New Guinean fishermen for the rise of Nazism. I suppose what annoys people is that we - apparently - benefit even now, economically and politically, from the legacy of empire and its horrid nasty pillaging etc. It was awful, but we are not to blame - agree. The best anyone can do is to try to help the less well-off, wherever and whenever possible.

For a start a lot of my fellow Scots don't read about there own history in great detail like I do, many Scots only see one side the bad boys of history the English, but the Scots where just as bloody on and off the battlefield than the English, like for example boiling English prisoners alive yeah nasty stuff. The people who are really racist to the English are lower class Scots with no real idea of there history.

I am English - very English. I have lived in Scotland for over 2 years and have met more friendly people here than I ever did in England. OK you get the odd idiot, but that applies in England too. It's nice to be nice and both English and Scottish people appreciate that!

I guess all of the ribs we've given each other over the past 300 years have kept the rivalry alive. In most cases it's nothing more than jokes and piss taking though. Not many "hate" anymore, although i'll admit it still exists. I guess stories passed on through generations still have a great effect on those specific people.

Presumably because they can't get over themselves. They think its something they "have" to do to be a proud Scot. Its a bit pathetic really.
I'm Welsh and this sort of shite gets on my nerves here in Wales too. Its seen as a "patriotic act" to be anti-English and most of the anti-English bozos don't even know WHAT they "hate" the English for!!!!
My BF is English and he's lovely. Everytime some fat stupid Welsh boy (usually from the Valleys) tells me I "shouldn't be dating an Englishman" I just look at the fat ugly ginger-haired idiot and think myself lucky I have a goregous and lovely man to go home to!!!
Northy - not all the Welsh"hate" the English - I don't - get your facts right and don't speak for others!

The so called hatred of the English tends to be from people with low IQ's especially the ones that have watched a certian historically inaccurate hollywood epic too often.

The scots are not the only country who hate the english! ireland and wales hate them too. Also with reference to the football answer, the problem is that every time the english qualify for a tournament the world cup in particular they always say its coming home(never does). So they then pathetically resort to 1966.Even their cricket team only has a couple of english born and bread players in it as they havn`t got the talent to breed home grown players.

It is not racism, read your history books and you will know why the Scots are not too found of the English. I would not be found in the same situation.
