Audio tapes can't be xrayed, Because it will erase them

I think you're wrong in your assumption that the tapes will be erased. People used to think that camera film could be damaged, but I've travelled all over the world carrying cameras, laptops, cassette tapes, cd's etc etc, and never had a problem with the x-ray machines. Check with the machine operator, and if in doubt, ask them to hand check them.

Check with the airlines you are flying with because security measures are always changing.

I would think so...but call the airport from where you are leaving and ask them to be sure.
