It's made with the tail of a horse and if you can't play a violin...it sounds like what comes out the head of the horse.

Horse Hair
Our prime white hair from Argentina, Siberia, China and Japan is hand dressed to perfection for violin and cello bows. We have on hand other colors and qualities which include salt and pepper, sorrel and black.
Our hair comes in all lengths of 27" to 36" to suit our customers' various needs.

For the most part it is horse hair. However, violin string and bowstring at one time was made from cat gut.
