Fresh seafood will not strongly fishy, but sometimes it does because of the stagnant water in it without some absorbing paper. So these lobster can be fresh as well, in such case, to reduce/elimiate smell use some strong spices. Coating it in 1 spoon of soy sauce should kill the smell, you can add finely chopped cilantro to further reduce smell, depends on your recipe if you can do this.
Carefully check the lobster, look for for black or pale brown marks on it, feel it, to see if it is little stale or really bad, if you can find out check the wrapping to see dates on it.

Did you buy lobster live or fresh or frozen?
When buying seafood, smell first. If they smell "fishy" - bad news
If they smell "somewhat fishy" ask if it's been in water or frozen-then thawed, because that can create a smell too. If it's either of the last two, that means it's been sitting, and you don't want it.
Buying seafood is a trust of your store. Look around and see if it moves quickly. If they have lots of sales-stay away. If they have fresh seafood in the case, then next week - a sale in the frozen case, beware.

Seafood should not smell, not at all. If it has a "fishy" smell, then it is not fresh. When you buy fish you should smell it. Don't buy any seafood if it has that "fishy" smell. It will only smell that way if it isn't fresh or has been out too long.

If it smells really strong fishy it's bad! The odor should be your first alarm that you have bought bad seafood and it should be thrown out. Also, if buying fish from a market the eyes should not be dull. Cooking bad food to 165 degrees to kill bacteria will not make bad food good.

Raw seafood has very little odor when it is truly fresh. It can get a little pungent when cooked, but it shouldn't be a "Bad" smell.
The eyes of a fish should be clear, not cloudy, and should have a normal shape, not sunken. The fish should not feel slimy, if it has scales. Catfish can feel slimy, but shouldn't smell bad.
